Day of 1000 Canoes

Kinsmen Park, Cayuga

11 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Weather permitting, Bob Blakeley and Cheryl MacDonald will be setting up a War of 1812 tent by the Grand River, greeting canoeists, and offering their books for sale. "Le Voyaguer Errant" also plans to attend, so you can learn about the fur trade and canoe travel in early Canada too!

Since books don't do well in the wet, if it turns out to be a rainy day we'll decamp to Lorna and John Walker's Neat Little Book Shop in downtown Cayuga.Come talk to us!

 

Friday, July 22 & Wednesday, August 31
Haunted Boat Cruise

Spooky sailing on the Grand!  In cooperation with Big Creek Boat Farm, Haldimand Museums is again hosting two evening Haunted Boat Cruises. Cheryl MacDonald will tell ghost stories and other gruesome tales, mostly from Haldimand County, there will be other activities, prizes -- and you can even enjoy beer or wine as you cruise along the historic Grand River. Canadian Military Heritage Museum Open House
One of our favourite annual events, in a great setting that more people should know about.. Everyone's welcome, there are door prizes and demonstrations and lots of great exhibits.

Do-Wop Dinner

Celebrate the Fabulous Fifties with a Do-Wop Dinner and Dance at Selkirk Centennial Hall, Main Street, Selkirk (right across from Muirhead's Esso.  Sponsored by Haldimand County Museums it features a typical 1950s dinner, plus a brief talk on the 1950s in Canada and Haldimand by Cheryl MacDonald. Wear your pontytail and poodle skirt -- 50's fashions are definitely encouraged!

 

Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7
Fort Erie Re-enactment
Details will follow, but Bob and I are planning to attend the annual War of 1812 Re-enactment in Port Dover. The Saturday evening battle is one of the best, so you don't want to miss out.
